Earlier we already reported the split between Mercedes and Mclaren, now we are looking forward to the cooperation between Mercedes and HWA AG, which is connected to AMG, to bild it's new super car.

As we all know they will be using a 6.2-litre V8, wich is used in several other AMG powered vehicles. What we didn't know is that Mercedes will unveil the new super car at the Geneva Motorshow, in March 2008.

It is expected it will compete with the new R8 amongst others like the Porsche 911.

Future Mercedes Supercar Without Mclaren

Despite the current succes of the Formula 1 team Mclaren Mercedes, you would think that Mercedes would put everything against the wall to collaborate with Mclaren for the development of their next supercar to star. But none of that is true.

Indeed, according to Automotive News Europe, Mercedes preferred to work together with it's DTM racing partner HWA AG founded by Hans-Werner Aufrecht in 1967, but also cofounder of AMG with Erhard Melcher from MKB.

Hans Jürgen Matheis, spokesman of HWA would have affirmed to have always had the ambition to prove Mercedes they could do better than McLaren… so now his time will come and so HWA will invest 4.5 million euros in the enlarging of its factory, thus passing from 1.200 to 3.600 m ². It is imagined easily that this extension will be used to accomodate a line of assembly.

So their future supercar will use AMG's 6.3 litre V8 while the Mclaren SLR uses the 5.5 litre V8.

Official Press Release: Mclaren SLR Roadster

Mercedes-Benz has just released the long-awaited SLR Mclaren roadster wich will go on sale as from September 2007. Unlike the SL and SLK roadsters, the SLR features a retractable soft-top wich will be available in three colours. The roof opens and closes semi-automatically in less than ten seconds. However, the driver must unlock the roof from the windscreen, after wich it folds away electrically. Opinions about this retractable soft-top will be different for every one, but i kinda like it.

First there were rumours that Mercedes would go for the upgraded 650Hp V8 of the SLR Mclaren 722 Special Edition, the "stock" 626Hp turbocharged V8 coupled to an AMG Speedshift R-five speed automatic transmission will be used. The roadster will do the sprint from 0 - 100 km/u (62 mph) in just 3,8 sec while it reaches his maximum speed at 332km/u (206mph) Press release and picture gallery? Click "Read More"
